Nets a go-go

Posted on: No Comments

Our 2018 nets are under way!

Despite the snow, we had a really good turn out from Barford and from our friends at Snitterfield CC. “Doris”, the bowling machine that we helped purchase with King George’s Playing Field, was the pick of the bowlers as usual.

We are always on the look out for new members and the nets are a great chance to find out if you’ve still got it. You are very welcome even if you never had it!

You can find full details of times, dates and locations by clicking here.

Winter Nets 2017

Posted on: No Comments

Its time to dust off your off-whites as winter nets are underway and will be running as follows:

* Sunday 22nd January at Warwick School for 6 weeks between 11:00 and 12:30, to be followed by a debrief in a local hostelry

* Monday 6th March at Kenilworth Wardens for 6 weeks between 20:00 and 21:30, to be followed by a debrief in the bar

Sessions cost £3 for adults and £1 for juniors, and should be enlivened by the presence of the new bowling machine (which can at the very least propel the ball in your general direction!)

Indoor Nets

Nets supremo Richard Jones has confirmed the first session will take place as scheduled this coming Sunday 18th January at Warwick School from 11am, so it’s definitely time to come out of hibernation and put last years kit through the wash (as the new one won’t be available for a couple of months), although a quick squirt of febreze is normally sufficient for me. After the undoubted excesses of the festive period it’s probably also worth doing a few stretches to make sure you don’t pull anything!

For those of you who want to break yourself back in gently and chew the fat with your team-mates, I can also recommend the following erudite publication to get you back into the swing…

Please let Richard know if you are able to make it, as it helps to plan the session. For the non-cricketers (and let’s face it, that’s most of us), I think you can safely assume the usual debriefing will take place afterwards in one of the local hostelries…

Nets and coaching 2014

It’s the new year and therefore time to begin the annual process of transforming from a shower of hapless fatties into an elite cricketing machine.

In the hope of keeping numbers up, we’ve changed the format a little this year so that we don’t have both nets and coaching running at the same time. We will begin with 6 weeks of Sunday nets at Warwick School, before moving on to Kenilworth Wardens for a further 8 weeks of Monday coaching with Paul and Mark. The dates for these are as follows:

Nets

Sunday 19th January – Warwick School – 11:00am to 12:00
Sunday 26th January – Warwick School – 11:00am to 12:00
Sunday 2nd February – Warwick School – 11:00am to 12:00
Sunday 9th February – Warwick School – 11:00am to 12:00
Sunday 16th February – Warwick School – 11:00am to 12:00
Sunday 23rd February – Warwick School – 11:00am to 12:00

Coaching

Monday 24th February – Kenilworth Wardens – 8:00pm to 9:30
Monday 3rd March – Kenilworth Wardens – 8:00pm to 9:30
Monday 10th March – Kenilworth Wardens – 8:00pm to 9:30
Monday 17th March – Kenilworth Wardens – 8:00pm to 9:30
Monday 24th March – Kenilworth Wardens – 8:00pm to 9:30
Monday 31st March – Kenilworth Wardens – 8:00pm to 9:30
Monday 7th April – Kenilworth Wardens – 8:00pm to 9:30
Monday 14th April – Kenilworth Wardens – 8:00pm to 9:30

The cost of each session will be just £3 and everyone is welcome, so please spread the word.

Sunday nets news at Warwick School and (detailed) directions

From our nets supremo Richard Jones:

Here is further information regarding the first net session on Sun 3rd Feb.

Venue: Warwick School Sports Hall

Time: 11:00 to 12:00

Mainly for the benefit of Simon Drage whose SatNav seems less than reliable the school is located here.

The Sports Centre is accessed via the last school entrance off Myton Road heading towards Leamington and there is plenty of parking in what during the week is the Junior School Car Park
From the car park walk past ‘the bears’ through the gates into the Junior School playground

P1120613RS

The entrance to the Sports Centre is on the left

P1120609RS

Through the doors walk straight on past the stairs and then turn left

– straight on to the Hall or right to Changing rooms

P1120608RS

We have a one hour session with four lanes available so I would ask you to be punctual so that we get the maximum from our time.

The nets, mats and plastic stumps should be in position but Mike Ireland (who visited the school with me today) has agreed to arrive 10 mins early to check this has happened. From our discussion with the duty manager it would seem that some mangers are not quite as conscientious as others in checking the diary for detailed requirements.

PS. You won’t need your thermals at this venue.

Nets news 2013!

Come along and turn your arm over ahead of the new season at our weekly (not bi-weekly as before) net sessions running for 7 weeks from Sunday 3rd February.

NB note the new venue at Warwick School. We’ll have four lanes of fun this time, but we will have to be prompt in and out.  However there are no nets to set -up or put away so there’s no excuse for tardiness.

Some things never change though and we will adjourn as always to the Old Fourpenny Shop afterwards for ‘debriefing’ and ‘analysis’ (aided by some liquid refreshment and ‘team nibbles’)
